Walk-in tub questions

How long does a walk-in tub take to fill and drain?

It depends on the model, the size and your water pressure. Most people wait several minutes each way. Many models have a fast-drain option that shortens the wait at the end. Ask for the exact fill and drain times of any tub you're considering.

Will a walk-in tub fit in my bathroom?

Most models are made to fit the same 60-inch alcove as a standard tub. Some are shorter and deeper, and wider models need more room. We measure at the free estimate and only show you models that fit.

Can it go where my shower stall is now?

Often, yes, but it takes more plumbing work than a straight tub swap because the drain and water lines have to move. It will cost more than putting it where the old tub was.

Do walk-in tub doors leak?

A properly installed door with a good seal shouldn't. The seal is a wear part, though, so ask what the warranty covers and for how long, and whether replacement seals are available for that model.

Should the door open in or out?

Inward-opening doors are pressed shut by the water, which helps the seal. Outward-opening doors make it easier to transfer from a wheelchair or for a caregiver to help, and there's no door to step around inside the tub. We'll go over both at the estimate.

Do I need a permit?

Usually yes, when plumbing or electrical work is involved. The contractor pulls it from the City of Sacramento, Sacramento County, or your city's building department, and schedules the inspection.

Does Medicare pay for walk-in tubs?

No. Medicare considers them a home improvement. Veterans may qualify for VA grants, and some people can count part of the cost as a medical expense on their taxes. See our page on help paying for a walk-in tub.

Can I cancel after I sign?

In California, if you sign a home improvement contract in your home, you generally have three business days to cancel. If you're 65 or older, you have five business days. The cancellation notice should be in your contract.

How long does installation take?

Most installs take one day. If the tub needs a new electrical circuit or new wall panels, it can take two.

Is this website the contractor?

Sacramento Walk-In Tubs connects homeowners with a licensed installer. The installation is done by Apex Home Renovations Inc., CSLB License #923631. You sign your contract with them and pay them directly.
